The ninth track on Metallica’s debut, “Seek & Destroy” distilled the band’s early NWOBHM-meets-punk aggression into a mid-tempo, crowd-chant anthem whose main riff nods to Diamond Head’s “Dead Reckoning.” First cut in a studio during the Kill ’Em All sessions, it has been a live fixture since its 1982 debut and ranks among Metallica’s most-performed songs. After 9/11 it appeared on Clear Channel’s list of “inappropriate” titles, underscoring its cultural visibility. Today it’s a signature set closer and an enduring entry point into the band’s early thrash era.
